What counts as engagement on TikTok

  • TikTok Analytics, the platform's own dashboard, reports post views, profile views, likes, comments and shares.
  • TikTok does not publish an engagement rate, so the formula is yours to choose. For short video, dividing by views shows how the people who watched responded.
  • Views count every play, repeats included, so a video people rewatch shows a lower rate by views.
  • Dividing by followers gives a steadier trend line, because follower counts move slowly while views swing from video to video.

  • In the app: open your profile, open the menu, then tap TikTok Studio and open TikTok Analytics.
  • On a computer: go to tiktok.com/tiktokstudio.
  • Analytics are available on Personal and Business accounts once you have at least one public post.
  • Your follower count is on your profile.

Measure it the same way every time

How do I calculate my TikTok engagement rate?
Add the video's likes, comments and shares, divide by its views and multiply by 100. For your account as a whole, work out the rate for your recent videos and average them.

Does TikTok show engagement rate?
No. TikTok Studio shows views, likes, comments and shares, but not a rate. You divide the interactions by views or followers yourself, which is what this calculator does.

Do I need a business account for TikTok analytics?
No. TikTok's support pages say its creator tools, including analytics, are available on Personal and Business accounts. You need at least one public post before analytics appear.

Should I divide by views or by followers on TikTok?
Views tell you how each video landed with the people who saw it. Followers give a steadier number to track over time. Both are valid; use the same one every time so your rates stay comparable.
