A post has to survive 280 characters on X, 500 on Threads, 2,200 on Instagram and TikTok, 3,000 on LinkedIn and 5,000 on YouTube. Those are hard ceilings, and they are not the interesting part. The interesting part is that each platform hides your text at a different point long before the limit: Instagram truncates around 125 characters, Facebook collapses long posts behind See more, and LinkedIn shows roughly the first two lines.
So a post written to LinkedIn's comfortable length arrives on X as a rejection, and a post written for X arrives on LinkedIn looking like an afterthought. Every platform accepts a different set of aspect ratios, resolutions and file sizes, and rejects the rest. Instagram will refuse ratios outside its accepted range. Stories want a tall 9:16 frame. TikTok will not take a still image at all.
Media is conformed on the way out rather than left to fail at the API. Images are checked against each destination's dimension and format limits and adjusted to fit, a still can be turned into a short video where a platform requires motion, and where you have chosen a specific crop for a platform, that choice is applied per destination. When a chosen ratio cannot be honoured, you are told, instead of the post silently going out wrong.
Publishing everywhere at once is the default, not a rule. Any platform can be switched off for a given post, and the text for one destination can be edited without touching the others, so a technical thread on X and a plain-language version on Facebook can come from the same draft.
