Facebook engagement rate calculator

Enter a post's reactions, comments and shares, and get its engagement rate by followers, reach and views. No sign-up, and no Facebook login.

Quick answer Facebook engagement rate = (reactions + comments + shares) ÷ reach × 100. Divide by followers for a steady trend, or by views for video. Meta publishes no engagement rate for organic posts, so the calculator below does the math.

Optional. From Meta Business Suite Insights.
Optional. Facebook's main metric: counts every appearance, repeats included.

By followers

Interactions as a share of your total audience. Comparable from post to post and month to month.

By reach

Interactions as a share of the people who actually saw the post. Needs the reach figure from your analytics.

By views

Interactions as a share of views. These count repeats, so this rate runs at or below the reach rate.

What counts as engagement on Facebook

  • Facebook's insights report reactions, comments and shares on each post.
  • Since 14 November 2024, Views replaced impressions and plays as the main metric. Reach still counts unique people, so it is never higher than Views.
  • Meta publishes no engagement rate for organic posts. The "engagement rate ranking" in Meta's help pages is an ads-only diagnostic, not a post metric.

Where to find these numbers on Facebook

  • Meta Business Suite, then Insights, then Content, then Overview.
  • Pages and profiles in professional mode also get a professional dashboard with reach and engagement.
  • Your follower count is on your Page or profile.

Measure it the same way every time

A rate is only comparable with itself: keep the same interaction types, the same denominator and the same window from week to week. The general engagement rate calculator explains the formulas in full.

Facebook engagement rate FAQs

How do I calculate engagement rate on Facebook?

Add the post's reactions, comments and shares, divide by its reach and multiply by 100. Divide by followers for a number you can compare month to month.

Does Facebook show an engagement rate?

Not for organic posts. Insights show reach, views and interactions. The "engagement rate ranking" you may see in Meta's help is for ads only.

Should I use reach or views on Facebook?

Reach counts unique people; Views count every appearance, repeats included, and have been Facebook's main metric since November 2024. Reach gives the cleaner rate; views give a lower one.

Where do I find Facebook post insights?

In Meta Business Suite, open Insights, then Content, then Overview. Pages and professional-mode profiles also have a professional dashboard.
