Before you use fancy fonts

These aren't real fonts: they're special Unicode symbols that look like letters. That's why they show up anywhere, and it's also why they have three downsides most generators don't mention.

  • Screen readers struggle with them. People using a screen reader may hear each symbol spelled out, or nothing. Use them for a word or two, not a whole caption.
  • Search can't read them. To search, these aren't ordinary letters. Keep your name and @ in plain text, or people searching for you won't find you.
  • Some phones show boxes. Rarer styles can appear as empty boxes on older devices. Bold and script work almost everywhere.
