Why look beyond Postiz?
Credit where due: Postiz is AGPL open source with tens of thousands of GitHub stars, the self-hosted version is the full product with no monthly fee, and the channel list (30-plus, including Discord, Slack, Medium and Dev.to) is the widest in the category. Cloud plans start at $29 a month for five channels with unlimited posts.
The gaps are just as clear. There is no social inbox, so comments, DMs and mentions live outside the tool entirely. Self-hosting means registering your own developer app with every platform you connect, which is a weekend of OAuth paperwork rather than one docker command. And reviewers report rough edges in the Instagram integration and generic AI output. Disclosure before the list: PersonaXpand, first below, is our product, and everything good said about Postiz above is real.
1. PersonaXpand: the half Postiz doesn't attempt
PersonaXpand is an AI social media manager for personal brands: it writes posts in your own trained voice for all seven networks and auto-replies to comments and DMs, on one flat plan. It covers exactly the ground Postiz leaves open: what comes back. Comments and DMs arrive in one inbox and get answered in your trained voice, autonomously or with one-tap approval, with analytics and reputation monitoring on the same plan. From $10 a month with a 14-day free trial.
Honest limits: it's closed source, there's nothing to self-host, and it covers seven social networks rather than 30-plus channels. If your pipeline posts to Discord, Slack and three blogs, Postiz still owns that job.
2. Buffer: the boring, reliable cloud option
If self-hosting lost its charm, Buffer is the established cloud scheduler: eleven networks, a free tier, per-channel pricing and years of stability. No OAuth apps to register, nothing to update. Engagement stays manual and the AI is generic; the trade is software someone else keeps running.
3. Later: if the missing piece is visual planning
Postiz schedules; Later designs. Its drag-and-drop grid preview is still the best way to plan an Instagram feed, with a mature link-in-bio attached. AI is credit-metered and replies stay manual, but for a visual brand the grid alone can justify it.
4. Hootsuite: the inbox at enterprise scale
If what Postiz is missing for you is specifically the inbox, and a team works it, Hootsuite has the deepest one: shared streams, assignments, approvals and listening at roughly $99 to $399 per user per month. The opposite trade from self-hosting: maximum service, maximum price.
5. Meta Business Suite: free without a server
The other way to pay nothing isn't a VPS, it's Meta's own console: free scheduling for Facebook and Instagram, Stories included, within Meta's caps. Two networks only and no AI, but zero setup and zero maintenance.
